COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Purdue runs past Valpo in the second half

FT. WAYNE, Ind. -- Katie Gearlds scored 28 points, including six of nine three-pointers, and Aya Traore added 23 points Sunday to help No. 24 Purdue beat Valparaiso, 70-55.

Betsy Rietema paced Valparaiso (4-4) with 13 points and Carrie Myers added 12.

Gearlds made consecutive three-pointers to cut Valparaiso's lead to 47-46.

Purdue (6-2) took the lead for good on Erin Lawless' lay-up with 7:54 left.

Gearlds sparked another run later. She made a three-pointer and another basket that gave the Boilermakers a 60-52 lead with 2:36 left.

Valparaiso led, 34-26, at halftime and increased its lead to 41-28 before the Boilermakers went on a 9-0 run early in the second half.

The Boilermakers made five of nine three-pointers in the second half in their first game since beating No. 10 Notre Dame, 65-54, on Wednesday.

Kansas 90, Wisconsin 87 (2 OT): Erica Hallman and Crystal Kemp had career highs to help host Kansas rally from an 11-point second-half deficit. Hallman scored 22 of her 24 points in the second half and the overtimes, including a three-pointer to send the game into the first overtime. Wisconsin's Jolene Anderson got the big shot for the Badgers in the first overtime. Anderson, who scored 26 points, was trying to pass but had to put up a one-handed, off-balance three-pointer at the buzzer. The shot went in, tying the game at 81. In the second overtime, Kemp gave the Jayhawks (7-0) the lead for good with a jumper with just under four minutes remaining. Kemp finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds.

Maryland 92, Arizona 67: Marissa Coleman scored 20 points, and Crystal Langhorne had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the No. 9 Terrapins (8-1). Maryland went 8-for-9 from three-point range in building a 46-27 halftime lead, then scored 30 of its 46 second-half points in the paint. The Terrapins had six players score in double figures. Coleman, a freshman forward, went 8-for-11 from floor and 4-for-5 from three-point range.

N.C. State 76, Delaware State 58: Tiffany Stansbury had 23 points and six rebounds to lead the No. 25 Wolfpack. Ashley Key scored 10 of her 14 points after halftime for the Wolfpack (6-2), who dominated the second half to remain unbeaten in five home games. N.C. State improved to 22-1 all-time against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference teams. Raquel Collier scored 23 points to lead the Hornets (4-2). Stansbury was 11-for-14 from the floor and had three blocks in 28 minutes, including 5-for-5 shooting after the break.

Ohio State 68, USC 57: Brandie Hoskins scored 20 points, and Jessica Davenport added 15 points and a career-best 18 rebounds for the No. 4, visiting Buckeyes. Camille LeNoir led USC with 15 points, and Eshaya Murphy added 14. USC went on a 9-1 run early in the second half and moved into a 39-all tie with 15:50 left. But Ohio State (6-0) pulled away from a 42-all tie with eight straight points. Chloe Kerr's basket cut the deficit to 57-53 with 3:45 left, but the Buckeyes responded with an 8-2 run and held on to win.

Rutgers 65, Princeton 56: Cappie Pondexter scored 21 of her game-high 25 points in the second half as No. 6 Rutgers rallied past host Princeton (5-3). Pondexter, who also had four rebounds and three assists, was 7-for-14 from the floor and 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Essence Carson added 14 points and seven rebounds for Rutgers (8-0).

Men

Maryland 73, Boston College 71: Ekene Ibekwe scored 21 points and Chris McCray 16, and the host, No. 21 Terrapins ruined the Eagles' Atlantic Coast Conference debut. Craig Smith had 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Sean Marshall scored 15 for the No. 6 Eagles (6-2), who lost to a Top 25 team for the second time in six days. The Eagles lost to No. 14 Michigan State on Tuesday night. Boston College went 5-for-15 at the line, compared with a 19-for-29 performance by the Terrapins (7-2, 1-0).
